As many of you know, we had to get a new air conditioner and heater this year, not only for the house, but for my office too. We also had to get a concrete slab to replace our deck because that got destroyed. That means that money we were expecting to put other places got spent in places we didn't want to. Expenses crop up all the time, and we've been fortunate enough to be able to cover them (so far). Of course, those aren't the only big expenses we've had this year, just the biggest. The others are all related to proper and regular maintinence on our primary form of transportation, a minivan.
I had plans for that money. So did my wife. Up until this year, those plans were relatively different. The slab was a need to an extent, but it was definitely a want for her, not so much for me. We did get on the same page this spring, after the slab, as far as goals are concerned, but we have a lot of catching up to do before we can actually head towards our end goal.
The process of getting on that same page can be painful, and so can the process of staying there.
