There is a subset of "Truth Seekers" and "Conspiracy Theorists" (the terms are largely interchangeable in this case) who will believe just about anything that seems like it goes against the prevailing narrative (hashtag not all). Real people who are smart and actually evaluate evidence while searching for the truth are different. They are part of the target audience and not what I'm talking about today.
I'm discussing that subset who will believe just about anything. They fall into the flat earthers, the believers in "the looking glass", believers in "reptilians" or the astral realm. Basically a set of individuals who will believe that the absence of evidence to back up their position is itself the proof they are right. These people are generally low IQ individuals with relatively bad lives (in my personal and entirely non-scientific observation) who refuse to take responsibility for their own problems. It's far easier to believe that their problems are caused by someone else, and they tend to do that with alarming frequency, so if their own problems are "someone else's fault" then why shouldn't there be a big scary cabal causing all the world's problems. See the believers in Q Anon.
